1,200 kilometres of cycle paths
To explore this charming city and its green surroundings for yourself, cycling combined with an efficient public transport network is the mobility solution of the moment. Munich has blossomed into a ‘cycling city’: The cycle-friendly transport network comprises over 1,200 kilometres of cycle paths, meaning that a good half of all roads in the Bavarian metropolis are equipped with cycle lanes. In addition, there are just under 100 roads that are exclusively for cyclists. Here is a fine selection of trendy bikes.
An urban statement – and not at all clunky

It was with this in mind that SCOTT set about developing the Silence eRide. Minimalist design combined with state-of-the-art technology. Working together with the German manufacturer TQ, the Swiss team have managed to integrate the 1.8 kg, 250-watt motor so discreetly into the down tube that, visually, it is almost indistinguishable from a conventional bike.
Once the 360 Wh battery runs out, it can be recharged to 80 per cent in just two hours. And even without motor assistance, the riding experience is almost identical to that of a classic bicycle. Weighing in at just 14.5 kg with its carbon frame, the Silence makes a real statement in terms of agility, lightness and a natural pedalling feel.

Stylish Sushi Bike: Set off on a journey of discovery in style

SUSHI BIKES stands for smart, sustainable urban mobility – and is headquartered in Munich. It’s the perfect way to explore Munich in style, in a carbon-neutral way and with the requisite flair. Weighing just 17 kilos, the SUSHI BIKE Maki 3.0+ is a lightweight e-bike. Fitted with a 200-watt hub motor and a removable 230.4 Wh battery, the Maki 3.0+ offers a range of up to 75 km.
The five assistance levels allow you to customise the motor assistance, with controls via a simple display. The aluminium frame with a rigid steel fork is available in sizes S, M and L. The 28-inch wheels are fitted with puncture-proof tyres, which provide added safety in urban environments. Hydraulic disc brakes ensure reliable braking performance in all weather conditions. The integrated LED lights, powered by the main battery, ensure visibility and safety on the road.
Get out of the city and explore some cool trails: an ultra-light gravel bike

The Canyon Grizl CF SLX 8 AXS Trail is designed as a dynamic gravel bike that covers distance whilst delivering riding enjoyment – ideally on varied terrain. With a lightweight carbon frame (950 g) and gravel-specific geometry, it offers a perfect balance of agility and stability. The RockShox Rudy Ultimate XPLR suspension fork with 30 mm of travel provides extra comfort on uneven terrain. The bike is powered by the SRAM Force XPLR eTap AXS 1x12 electronic groupset, which enables precise, cable-free gear changes. Hydraulic disc brakes from SRAM ensure reliable braking performance in all conditions.

A lovely gravel cycle route in the west of Munich, for example, covering around 80 km and taking approximately 5.5 hours, winds its way through the western outskirts of Munich, linking idyllically situated rivers and lakes such as the Würm, Wörthsee, Ammersee and Amper. The route follows well-maintained cycle paths – including the Ammersee Cycle Path and the Via Julia – as well as quiet side roads with fine gravel or tarmac. Numerous places to stop for refreshments and a constant stream of impressive views of the Alpine panorama make the tour a real highlight. In summer, Wörthsee and Ammersee also offer ideal spots for a swim.

What the ‘cycling city’ initiative means for Lagen
A 1,200-kilometre cycle route changes how long a journey feels. For those living in Schwabing, Neuhausen or Bogenhausen, cycling to the city centre is often quicker than driving, and in the west, the gravel route featured in this article takes you past the Würm, Wörthsee and Ammersee – in other words, right through the neighbourhoods where many of our homes are located.
For buyers, this means that access to the cycle network is now a key factor in assessing a location, not just the S-Bahn station. Anyone who uses e-bikes in Munich on a daily basis measures distances in minutes, not kilometres. Those looking in the west can get an overview at ‘Buying a villa in the Würm Valley ’ and here in the ‘Land of Five Lakes’. The Munich market report shows how supply and prices have developed recently.
