The stage is set – cultural delights in Grünwald right on your doorstep
World-famous stars at the Grünwalder Concerts
This year, the Grünwalder Concerts will once again welcome world-renowned stars of classical music to the August-Everding-Saal. On 21 April, Daishin Kashimoto, Claudio Bohórquez and Eric Le Sage will perform works by Toru Takemitsu, Maurice Ravel and Franz Schubert, before world-class violist Tabea Zimmermann comes to Grünwald with the Belcea Quartet on 28 May. The Pavel Haas Quartet will perform on 1 October, featuring works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Antonín Dvořák. And on 22 October, the Munich-born, multi-award-winning violinist Lena Neudauer will come to Grünwald with her friends. The programme includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Franz Schubert, amongst others.

Grünwald’s rich cultural tradition bridges the past and the present. This can be experienced at the Castle Museum. The former hunting lodge of the Wittelsbach dynasty is run directly by the State Archaeological Collection in Munich and offers an insight into the rich history of castles in the Isar Valley and throughout Bavaria. The museum regularly hosts original special exhibitions. ‘Karl Valentin and the Old Knights’ is the title of the exhibition, which will run from 27 March to 15 November 2026. It traces the influence that the Middle Ages and chivalry had on Karl Valentin’s work.
Private viewings at the ArtBunker
The ArtBunker, a private art and culture salon established by Dr Filipp and Betty Goldscheider, also adds a special touch. In the summer, they showcase selected pieces from their art collection in the former civil defence bunker beneath Zeillerstraße as part of private viewings. In addition, the collector couple also make their ArtBunker available to artist friends, galleries and curators for special exhibition projects and exclusive events.

However, the people of Grünwald can also get creative themselves. Grünwald is the only municipality in the district to have been working in partnership with the Munich Adult Education Centre – one of the largest providers of adult education in Germany – for more than 50 years.

In Grünwald, the Munich Adult Education Centre offers not only painting, drawing and photography courses but also, for example, theatre and singing courses, as well as cultural history walks, such as those to the castles on the high banks of the Isar. It’s well worth taking a look at the varied programme.

Incidentally, the 4D cinema at Bavaria Filmstadt is the only one of its kind in the entire Munich metropolitan area. It is currently showing the film “Mogli’s Jungle Adventure”, offering first-class animated entertainment for young and old alike.

A view beyond Grünwald
There’s also plenty on offer culturally in the Grünwald neighbourhood. In Pullach, the Bürgerhaus offers a varied seasonal programme packed to the brim with highlights. Whether it’s theatre or classical concerts, cabaret or jazz, there’s something to suit everyone’s taste at the Bürgerhaus. And in Icking, the Hollerhaus Irschenhausen hosts not only changing art exhibitions but also readings, concerts and events featuring artists.
All these special venues in Grünwald and the surrounding area are definitely worth keeping an eye on. You can find the latest programmes on each venue’s website.
What having its own concert hall means for a community
A town with a population of around 11,000 that hosts world-renowned chamber music stars in its own concert hall, houses a state-run museum in the castle and has been working in partnership with the Munich Adult Education Centre for over 50 years has more to offer than just good transport links. Culture in Grünwald takes place on your doorstep, not just after a journey into the city. For families who choose to make this their long-term home, this is precisely one of the reasons that are hard to replicate later on. Anyone interested in property in Grünwald will find the cultural calendar a reliable indicator of a vibrant community life.
